Linking Verbs are verbs that express a state of being.

连系动词是表示一种存在状态的动词。

They are called "linking" verbs because they link the subject of the sentence to a word or phrase in the predicate that renames or describes the subject (tells us more about the subject's "state of being").

之所以被称为连系动词,是因为它连接了句子主语和谓语中描述主语的一个词或短语(描述主语的存在状态)。

Examples of Linking Verbs:

All forms of the verb "be" are always linking verbs.

Other verbs can be linking verbs or action verbs:

To find a linking verb:

You already know that nouns are words that name persons, places, things, and ideas.

Nouns can function as direct objects. A direct object receives the action of the verb. In other words, it is the thing being acted upon.

Only action verbs can have direct objects. A direct object will never follow a linking verb.

只有行为动词有直接宾语。连系动词后不能接直接宾语。

To find a direct object:
