but, yet, however, nevertheless, although, (even) though, while, whereas, notwithstanding, despite, in spite of, in contrast (to), on the contrary, on the other hand, whatever, otherwise, ironically, paradoxically, curiously, surprisingly.
In spite of the increasing _______ of their opinions, the group knew they had to arrive at a consensus so that the award could be presented.
A. impartiality
B. consistency
C. judiciousness
D. incisiveness
E. polarity
A impartiality, “不偏不倚, 公正,公平”
B consistency “一致性, 连贯性”
C judiciousness “明智”
D incisiveness “深刻,激烈”
E polarity “极端”
那么,我们要先把后半句话的意思弄明白了,the group knew they had to arrive at a consensus so that the award could be presented 即“这个团体知道他们不得不达成一致意见以便作出决定”。
Though his contemporaries tended to fixate on the politician's supposed _______,his personal correspondence _______ a surprising largesse.
A. Charity. . Confirms
B. Parsimony. . Contradicts
C. Avarice. . Betrays
D. Integrity. . Reveals
E. Generosity. . Bespeaks

(C) and (F), while synonyms do not fit the context at all. Wilde is having fun with the play on words with 'declare' (which, for the literary inclined, is an instance of a zeugma). (A) is an unfamiliar definition of 'arch.' In this case, it means to be mischievous. Likewise, puckish means playful, mischievous.

To most, the word ‘architecture’ connotes a grandeur typically associated with the Old World--flying buttresses, Doric columns, baroque flourishes, byzantine arabesques--and thus many of the more_____ structures, especially those not obviously inspired by neo classicalism, are often thought to be cobbled together haphazardly instead of following some prescribed architectural idiom.
A. modest
B. secular
C. unassuming
D. dilapidated
E. ramshackle
F. sedate
A C
The trap here is to contrast grandeur with the blank. If you do so, you will end up with (D) and (E). The contrast, however, is not between grandeur and dilapidation. Rather, between what constitutes architecture and what does not. Therefore, (A) and (C) fit this context much better. The contrast is between everyday buildings and the grand structures of the Old World.
